[adult surf] Sessions

We have (5) [adult surf] sessions that are between the dates of June 25, 2023 and September 3, 2023. These are our basic intro to surf classes where you will learn the functions of the surfboard, basic board skills, water safety measures, and surfing etiquette.

Our mission is to create a safe learning environment for black and brown adults who’ve always wanted to learn how to surf.

We started our [adult surf] lessons to encourage more adults in the BIPOC community to learn how to surf. There are numerous surf schools in Rockaway Beach, but many adults in the BIPOC community have expressed their feelings of not belonging in those spaces.

SLIDING SCALE ADULT LESSONS

We’re offering these surf lessons on a sliding scale. And are relying on an honor system for our participating BIPOC adult students.

🔴 RED TIER

Select this tier if you frequently struggle to or are unable to meet your basic needs, and have little to no expendable income, are unemployed or underemployed, and cannot afford to take time off.

🟡 YELLOW TIER

Select this tier if you are able to achieve and meet your basic needs, have some expendable income, are employed, generally have housing stability, and can take occasional time off without a lot of financial burden.

🟢 GREEN TIER

Select this tier if you are able to comfortably meet your basic needs, have expendable income, are employed or do not need to work to meet your basic needs, and can comfortably make rent payments or own your home.

While we welcome everyone to join our [adult surf] lessons, we wanted to share why we started these lessons and who they're intended for.
