Join the Swim Strong Foundation, Laru Beya Collective and the Water Safety Coalition for an interactive community discussion about all things water and water safety. Learn about best practices to keep yourself and your loved ones safe in, on and around the water either for a day at the beach, or within the impacts of climate change. No one expects a bad outcome when they go to the beach, and with situational knowledge of the water, you won’t have one!
Attendees will gain a thorough understanding of the benefits and challenges of waterfront access and water-based recreation, as well as situational knowledge of the water with more frequent extreme weather and within the impacts of climate change. Climate change related topics such as extreme heat and regular flooding will be discussed, and what to know about interacting with water in these circumstances, specific to Rockaway and the NYC region as a whole.
Partner organizations Water Safety Coalition, Laru Beya Collective, Sigma Gamma Rho and Rockaway Kiwanis will table at the event, engage attendees in the programming they offer that teaches & demos water safety practices, and also engage the attendees in advocacy efforts.
All ages, children under 18 should be accompanied by an adult.
