SWIM 1922, in partnership with USA Swimming, is one of SGRho’s national programs and is targeted at reducing the drowning rates of African American and Hispanic children. One way their sorority and chapter have leaned in to support this effort is by hosting swim clinics to teach youth about water safety. In turn, it is our hope that this engagement and exposure will reduce the number of African American and Hispanic youth’s fear of water and increase their knowledge and participation in swimming.
Did you know? According to the CDC, approximately 10 people drown every day in the U.S.A. An even more startling fact is that 70 percent of African American children and 60 percent of Hispanic children in the U.S. do not know how to swim.
