Story Behind the Art Work

The Buena Onda Collective hosted an afternoon beach cleanup followed by a cyanotype art workshop with mentors and youth mentees of the Laru Beya Collective. 

In the cyanotype workshop, participants created photograms from collected trash and plants around the Rockaway peninsula beaches. Using the sun as our source, we collected and configured objects to create a visual poem that harnesses the experience of convening with Rockaways' unique urban wildlife landscape.

All proceeds from these one-of-a-kind pieces will benefit the Laru Beya Collective in their efforts to grow their summer surf-focused programming by 40% in 2022.
